About AI-Buzz
AI company intelligence with developer signals you won't find elsewhere.
What is AI-Buzz?
AI-Buzz provides curated AI company intelligence for people who need more than funding data—tech journalists, VCs, founders, and product managers who want to understand which AI companies are gaining real traction.
While Crunchbase tracks funding, AI-Buzz tracks developer community signals: Hacker News buzz, GitHub activity, and momentum over time. We're building a data platform that shows not just who's raising money, but who developers are actually paying attention to.
Data Sources
💰 Funding Data
Source: Manual curation from company announcements, press releases, and public filings
We manually review and verify funding rounds rather than rely on automated scraping. This ensures accuracy but means we focus on quality over completeness.
🔥 Hacker News Mentions
Source: Algolia HN Search API (daily sync)
We track how often companies are mentioned on Hacker News over the past 30 days. HN is a leading indicator of developer attention—what's discussed there often becomes mainstream 6-12 months later.
⭐ GitHub Activity
Source: GitHub API (daily sync)
For open-source AI companies, we track stars, forks, and last commit date. This shows whether a project is actively maintained and how much developer interest it's generating.
📰 Company News
Source: Aggregated from TechCrunch, VentureBeat, and company blogs
We track major company announcements, product launches, and significant news. This provides context around funding rounds and momentum changes.
Methodology
Company Selection
AI-Buzz is curated, not comprehensive. We focus on companies that are either gaining developer traction, well-funded, or strategically important to the AI ecosystem. This means we might miss smaller companies, but everything we track has been manually vetted.
Category Taxonomy
Companies are tagged with a primary domain (main category) based on their core product offering. Our taxonomy includes 16 categories: Foundation Models, Code Generation, AI Agents, Video Generation, Audio & Speech, and more.
Categories are manually assigned and reviewed periodically as companies pivot or expand their product lines.
Momentum Indicators
Companies are labeled as:
- Hot— Rapidly growing developer attention, recent funding, or significant product momentum
- Stable— Established presence, consistent activity, mature product
Status Tracking
We track company status (Private, Public, Acquired) based on public announcements. Acquisitions and IPOs are manually verified and updated as they happen.

Why We Built This
Enterprise company databases cost $15,000/year and focus on financial metrics. But developer attention is often a better predictor of which AI companies will matter than funding alone.
Hacker News discussions, GitHub stars, and community momentum tell you what developers are actually building with—not just what VCs are betting on. We built AI-Buzz to make that data accessible to journalists, solo investors, and founders who can't afford Crunchbase Pro.
Our goal is to track change over time: which companies are accelerating, which are fading, and which developer communities are growing. That's the insight you can't get from static company profiles.
